Louisville, KY â Third baseman Brandon Larson broke the Louisville franchise home run record with the 47th of his career yesterday. Kevin Barker set the old mark of 46 during the 1998-99 seasons when Louisville was a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate. After starting the year with the Cincinnati Reds, Larson needed only 20 games and six home runs to pass the all-time mark.
Larson is tied with Jim Adduci and Ozzie Canseco with most two home run games in a career with five. He tied the record on April 29 versus the Indianapolis Indians this season.
Larson, 26, has been in a Louisville uniform since 2000, playing 232 games as either a RiverBat or Bat. In 2002, the Texas native was a Triple-A All-Star, along with three of his Bats teammates. He also received the Sheldon "Chief" Bender Award as the Reds' Minor League Player of the Year in 2002.
Entering the 2003 season, he had a career .290 average with 128 RBI and 119 runs scored while in a Louisville uniform. Currently he is batting .308 with 14 RBI and 18 runs. He leads the team with a .615 slugging percentage.
A graduate of Louisiana State University, Larson was a first-team All-American and Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 1997. That season he led the Tigers to their second-straight National Championship after setting LSU and SEC single-season records with 40 home runs and 118 RBI. He was named the 1997 College World Series MVP and was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the nation's best amateur player.
