CHICAGO, IL -The Major Indoor Soccer League names Chicago Storm goalkeeper/assistant Coach Jim Larkin as the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week, for the week of January 29, 2007. The award marks the fourth time this season and the 18th time that the veteran 'keeper has won the award. The MISL has also announced Detroit's Jonathan Greenfield and Milwaukee's Troy Dusosky as co-Defensive Players of the Week and California's Brian Farber as the Offensive player of the Week.
In two games played on the road over the weekend, Larkin faced a whopping 41 shots on goal stopping all but five. Friday the Toronto native faced 15 shots on net versus the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast and Friday he all but stoned the first place Philadlephia KiXX facing 26 shots and only allowing one goal, helping Chicago defeat Philadelphia. The award marks the fourth time he has won the honor this season, tying him with former Chicago goalkeeper Danny Waltman for most Goalkeeper of the Week awards in one season and the 18th time Larkin has earned Player of the Week decoration over the course of his career; good for fifth all-time for weekly honors and 11 behind indoor soccer legend Victor Nogueira.
The Virginia Commonwealth graduate has earned numerous accolades over the course of eight year professional indoor soccer career, including All-Rookie first team honors, multiple Defensive Player of the Week awards, three All-star game appearances as well as helping the Cleveland Force advance to the 2005 MISL Championship. Larkin was acquired by the Storm via trade from the Detroit Ignition and was immediately signed as a player and as an assistant coach to Chicago's first year head coach Steve Morris. Upon all of his regular duties, Larkin has recently been named as head coach of the Storm's developmental team, Tormenta.
The Chicago Storm's next home game after the Mexican all-star game is on February 24th against the Baltimore Blast.
