Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - The Missions scored five times in the second inning Friday night, knocking off the Hooks, 7-4, before 6,283 fans at Whataburger Field.
San Antonio has evened the series at 2.
Corpus Christi jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Lake Bachar thanks to a two-run home run off the bat of Yainer Diaz in the first. Diaz, who has gone deep twice in the set, leads the Texas League with 68 hits and ranks fourth in the circuit with 44 RBIs.
The Missions countered by sending 10 men to bat in the second against Misael Tamarez. Nine-hole hitter Reinaldo Ilarraza highlighted the uprising with a two-out, three-run home run to right field.
The Hooks got two back with two away in the third on a base hit by Will Wagner, plating Luke Berryhill and Justin Dirden.
San Antonio's pen took over from there, with Moises Lugo striking out six over 2 2/3 innings for the victory. Alek Jacob earned his first save, striking out five while retiring all six batters he faced.
Jojanse Torres and Layne Henderson both pitched shutout relief for CC. Torres fanned four against one hit and one walk over a season-best three frames. Henderson allowed just two baserunners in the seventh and eighth.
Cody Deason makes the start for Corpus Christi on Saturday night. Nolan Watson is the probable for SA. First pitch 7:05.
