LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks got 33 brilliant saves from goalie Eric Marvin as they whitewashed the Colorado Eagles 1-0 in front of a raucous sellout crowd of 8,002 at the Laredo Entertainment Center on Friday night. The Bucks picked up their franchise record setting 11th straight win, and also made a $10,000 donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation because of the sellout crowd. Overall Laredo improved their Southern Conference best record to 39-13-5, they also have a CHL high 83 points and they clinched their fourth straight Southeast Division title and fourth straight Southern Conference regular season title with the win. Laredo is home on Sunday against the Corpus Christi Rayz for a 4 p.m. face off. The first 3,000 fans get a Bucks team photo from Powell Watson. Laredo out shot Colorado 10-5 in the first, but neither team scored.
In the second period the Bucks broke thru as forward Chris Korchinski cut down the left wing into the Eagles zone and snapped home a wrist shot high glove side at 13:13. Late in the frame Colorado had a chance to draw even as forward Seth Leonard had a penalty shot, but Marvin turned the chance aside at 18:30 with a blocker save.
In the third period Marvin continued to sparkle as he stopped all 15 Eagles shots to complete the shutout. FINAL SCORE Laredo 1, Colorado 0.
Marvin picked up his second career shutout as he improved to 20-5-4. Marco Emond played very well, allowing just one goal on 28 shots, but fell to 24-7-0. The Bucks were 0-6 on the power play, while Colorado went 0-5. The Eagles out shot the Bucks 33-28.
