Lanoue Named Spitfires Academic Player of the Month for December

The Windsor Spitfires are proud to announce that the Peter Thomson of Sun Life Financial and Spitfires Academic Player of the Month for December is Derek Lanoue.

Peter Thomson and Sun Life Financial believe that education is the cornerstone of being a well rounded contributor to the community and are proud to sponsor the Spitfires Academic Player of the Month award. All players who win the award this season are integral members of the Spitfires on the ice but also great representatives off the ice through their commitment to their school work. The life of an OHL player is a busy one and Peter Thomson congratulates each player for succeeding on and off the ice at such a high level.

Lanoue, a 19 year-old native of Belle River, Ontario is carrying an A average in the Chemistry program at the University of Windsor where he attends part time. Last season, he was the 2010 winner of the Roger Neilson Memorial Award as the OHL's Top Academic College/University Player and continues to strive for academic excellence in the pursuit of his degree.

John Laporte, Windsor Spitfires Academic Advisor offered the following, "Derek is a brilliant student who has proven himself both on the ice and in the classroom. His commitment to hard work earned him the OHL's top post secondary honour last season and Derek is well on his way to having another excellent season athletically and academically. The Windsor Spitfires are proud of everything that Derek has accomplished and he is a great example of the OHL's slogan, The Best of Both Worlds".

Prior to the commencement of a future Spitfires home game, Peter Thomson of Sun Life Financial will be presenting Derek with a $100 gift for his outstanding achievement.
