Langtry named NLL player of the week

DENVER - Colorado Mammoth forward Brian Langtry has been named the National Lacrosse League's player of the week.

Langtry was named the league's top offensive and overall player for Week 1 of the 2007 season for his six-goal, four-assist performance in the Mammoth's 20-15 win over the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday. Langtry also picked up 10 loose balls in the Mammoth's season-opener at Pepsi Center.

Mammoth transition man Josh Sims was also honored, named the NLL's first-ever transition player of the week. Sims scored seven points on three goals and four assists and collected 13 loose balls in the Mammoth victory.

The NLL's weekly awards have been expanded this season to include a transition player of the week. The weekly awards are announced every Wednesday during the regular season and honor the top performances from around the league from the preceding weekend. The NLL continues to award weekly honors for offense, defense, rookie and overall player of the week, in addition to the transition player award.

Portland LumberJax goaltender Dallas Eliuk was named the defensive player of the week after leading his team to an 11-10 overtime win over the Buffalo Bandits. LumberJax forward Jed Prossner was named the rookie of the week.
