The weekly awards have been expanded this season to include a Transition Player of the Week. The NLL continues to award weekly honors for offense, defense, rookie and overall player of the week, in addition to the transition player award.
A transition player is specialist who has an expanded role beyond the traditional forward or defenseman positions. A transition player takes on both offensive and defensive roles. One unique and defining role of a transition player is to move or transition the ball from the defensive zone to the offensive zone.
