January 3, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, Jan. 3, 2006 - For their effort in Saturday's 11-10 Jax overtime home-opener win at the Rose Garden, both Dallas Eliuk and rookie Jed Prossner were recognized as National Lacrosse League (NLL) Players of the Week [ Week Number One] of NLL action. Veteran-goalie Eliuk took home the Defensive Player of the Week accolade while Prossner was the clear-cut winner of the Rookie of the Week award.

Eliuk recorded 46 saves and allowed just 10 goals during his Dec. 30 performance against Buffalo. He was an integral part of the Jax overtime win, stopping seven shots on goal through the fourth quarter and overtime. His 0.821-save percentage and 46 saves were the best numbers posted by any of the four goalies that opened their 2007 season this past Saturday night (Rochester and Colorado played as well). The next closest save percentage of .811 was posted by Chris Levis from the Mammoth who saved only 30 shots on the night. Bandits' goalie Mike Thompson made 40 saves and a .784-save percentage, placing second behind Eliuk for most saves on the night.

During his NLL debut, Prossner provided an answer the LumberJax needed after the team fell behind by two goals in the fourth quarter. With less than four minutes to play, the young rookie forward scored Portland's final two goals of regulation (11:41, 13:48 respectively) to tie the score at 10 and send the game into sudden death overtime. Overall, the University of North Carolina alumni recorded two goals and two assists for four points in his rookie debut.

"It was a great experience playing in my first NLL game, and the fact that I was named Rookie of the Week is a nice honor as well. I give the credit to our team though," Prossner said of his award. "It was a complete team effort in the game Saturday night, and I was just out there contributing in any way that I could."

Head Coach Derek Keenan pulled Eliuk for a Jax six-on-five man-up advantage shortly after overtime began and forward Scott Stapleford delivered the game-winning goal 41 seconds in to give Portland a 11-10 victory and a 1-0 opening record. The team now heads into their first road game on Jan. 13 against the Philadelphia Wings (4:30 p.m. PST).

In other weekly awards, Colorado Mammoth forward Brian Langtry (6G, 4A, 10Pts., 10 LB) was named Overall Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week while transition player Josh Sims (3G, 4A, 7 Pts, 13 LB) became the first-ever Transition Player of the Week. The NLL has expanded their weekly awards this season to include Transition Player of the Week. The weekly awards are announced by the league every Wednesday during the regular season.
