Lancers Weekly: Offense Powers Lancers to Weekend Sweep

Ralston, NE - The Lancers started their four-week road trip off in strong fashion sweeping the Fargo Force scoring five goals each night. Omaha is back on the road this weekend playing Team USA on Friday night before facing off with USHL leading Chicago on Saturday.

Need To Know:

* After starting the weekend in 8th place in the Western Conference Omaha has climbed to 5th place

* Pierce Crawford scored twice in both games, his second and third multi-goal games of the season

* Omaha has scored in the first five minutes of each game over the current four-game win streak.

The Week in Review

Two unanswered goals in the third period gave the Lancers the gap they needed to win their third straight, defeating Fargo 5-3 Friday night at Scheels Arena.

Omaha scored in the first five minutes of all three periods pacing themselves to the victory. Forward Brannon McManus notched his fifth goal of the season, continuing his league-high four game point streak, while picking up an assist as well. Pierce Crawford and Mitch Perrault each added two goals to wrap up the scoring.

In net Peter Thome made 35 saves on 38 shots, including all 17 shots he faced during the third period.

On Saturday night five consecutive goals through the first two periods helped the Lancers cruise to a 5-2 victory, sweeping the weekend series with the Force.

Pierce Crawford continued his offensive assault on the Force recording the Lancers first and last goals of the night. Filip Rydstrom and Alex Mehnert both added two assists for the Lancers.

In net Peter Thome made 38 saves on 40 shots in the win.

Week Ahead

Omaha takes on Team USA in Plymouth Michigan on Friday night before heading to Chicago on Saturday.

This is the first of two meetings between the Lancers and Team USA. Team USA (2-4-1-0, 5 pts) comes into the weekend in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Most recently Team USA dropped a pair of games to Des Moines (6-3, 3-0) on October 7 and 8.

Joel Farabee is the team's leading scorer with five points (2g, 3a) in five games this season. Jacob Tortora and Bode Wilde are the only other players who have scored multiple goals this season.

Chicago (6-0-0-0, 12 pts) is the lone undefeated team in the USHL after four weeks. The Steel are coming off a weekend where they outscored opponents 8-1 in two games.

Forwards Greg Printz and Johnny Walker have both scored four goals in six games this season. Jake Jaremko leads the team in scoring with seven points (2g, 5a).

Ales Stezka has yet to allow a single goal in two games played this season. Stezka has recorded 59 saves in two shutouts. Tommy Nappier is 4-0-0-0 with a 1.47 goals against average and a .947 save percentage in four games.

Alumni Notes:

NCAA:

Goaltender Kris Oldhman got his first career NCAA win in his first appearance for Nebraska-Omaha on Friday night. Former captain Nick Rivera notched his first career point with an assist in Minnesota State's 6-4 victory over St. Cloud State Saturday night. In Boston Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson had two assists in the Terriers Friday night's 4-3 loss to Denver. Patrick Harper recorded three assists for the Terriers in the weekend series against the Pioneers.

AHL:

Thatcher Demko made his professional debut for the Utica Comets on Sunday in Toronto. Demko made 28 saves in a 5-2 loss to the Marlies.

NHL:

Paul Stastny (2g, 4a) opened the season with points in three straight games for the Blues. Stastny scored once and added two assists in an opening night win against the Blackhawks.
