Storm Weekly: Dominant Weekend Leads Storm into Second-Ever "Bye Week"

The Tri-City Storm embarks on its second-ever fall "bye week", a 13-day break, after sweeping Storm Fights Cancer Weekend. For the third straight season, hundreds of community members joined players and coaches to Paint the Ice with the names of those that have battled cancer. In the next two victories on the painted ice, the Storm outscored opponents, 10-3, blasting Cedar Rapids, 6-0, and overcoming Lincoln, 4-3.

Five dollars off every $14 ticket was donated to local organizations fighting cancer. The Storm auctioned off jerseys from Saturday's Concrete Cares night. All proceeds from the jersey auction went to Concrete Cares, helping to raise money for cancer research and awareness.

Alex Limoges finished with three goals and five points in two games. Defenseman Philip Alftberg had his first two USHL goals in a two-minute span Saturday against the Stars and finished the weekend with four points. Dayton Rasmussen recorded his first USHL shutout on Friday.

Tri-City's next game is in 11 days, October 28 at Fargo. The Storm plays a pair of road games against the Force before returning home for Social Media Night, presented by the Nebraska Lottery, against Omaha on Friday, November 4.

Need to Know Bizarre Bye Week Outside of the USHL's holiday break in late December, the Storm has only had two scheduled "bye weeks" in its history. Tri-City started it second ever fall off week, a 13-day respite, after Saturday's win at Lincoln.

The only other time the Storm had a bye (outside of the holidays) was in October 2002. In the midst of a four-game homestand, Tri-City lost against River City (now the Omaha Lancers) on October 5 and did not play again until it defeated Chicago at home on October 18.

Tri-City's longest ever break came during the holiday season in 2004-05, when the Storm had a 14-day rest from December 18, 2004 to January 1, 2005. Conversely, the Storm's shortest holiday break was six days in 2012-13.

Further, once the Storm returns from a bye at Fargo on October 28, it has only three games in two weeks. From Sunday, October 16 to Thursday, November 10, Tri-City plays three contests, the fewest it has ever had in a 25-day span.

First and Final Dominance The Storm leads the league with 14 first-period goals after notching six over the weekend. Tri-City outscored Lincoln and Cedar Rapids, 6-1, over the weekend and is outscoring opponents by nine in the opening 20 minutes. Tri-City has led in eight of nine contests, most in the USHL and has scored the first goal in six games, tied for best.

Meanwhile, the Storm has surrendered a combined 10 shots over its last three third periods, easing the work on netminder Dayton Rasmussen. The 17-year-old from Eden Prairie, Minnesota faced two shots on goal Friday against Cedar Rapids and recorded his first USHL shutout.

Prime Power Play The Storm has scored power-play goals in five games, the longest stretch since Bill Muckalt became Head Coach in July 2015. Tri-City tallied four man-up goals over the weekend and is tied for the league lead with nine power-play markers. Saturday's game-winning goal was on the power play.

In the last five games, the Storm is 9-for-24 while up a man, a 35% conversion clip. Tri-City ranks third in the league, converting 23.7% of chances. The Storm has been on the man advantage 38 times, tied for most in the circuit.

The Storm started the season 0-for-14 on the man advantage.

Game Recaps Game 8 vs. Green Bay: Dominant first slashes RoughRiders, 6-0 RECAP BOX SCORE Tri-City scored four goals in the first period and Dayton Rasmussen made 18 saves for his first USHL shutout, helping the Storm crash Cedar Rapids, 6-0.

The Storm played its first of two straight games on ice painted with names of those that have fought cancer.

Alex Limoges and Wyllum Deveaux notched two goals. Deveaux is the Storm's youngest player, born August 2000. Linus Weissbach and Philip Alftberg each contributed two assists.

Joseph Campolieto, acquired Tuesday from the NAHL, had an assist in his Storm debut. In two games this weekend, the 18-year-old from Eynon, Pennsylvania was on the ice for a team-high six goals.

Game 9 vs. Lincoln: Storm scores two in the third to overcome Lincoln, 4-3 RECAP BOX SCORE Alex Limoges and Brian Yoon scored in a six-minute span in the third and the Tri-City Storm came back to defeat the Lincoln Stars, 4-3, Saturday at the Viaero Center.

Limoges' goal, his team-best fifth of the season, tied the contest early in the third. Slightly more than halfway through the frame, a power-play goal by Bryan Yoon put the Storm in front for the second time.

Tri-City scored the first two goals before Lincoln struck back for three straight. After yielding the go-ahead goal in the second, Dayton Rasmussen was perfect for the last 29 minutes and had 24 stops.

Charlie Kelleher finished with two assists, tying the first-year forward for a team-high five helpers.
