Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE- In front of a sold-out crowd of 3,748 at Ralston Arena on Saturday, the Omaha Lancers made "TeamMates Night" a memorable affair, as they defeated their bitter in-state rivals, the Lincoln Stars, by a final score of 8-1. With the win, the Lancers improved to 23-5-4 overall this season and with 50 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
In a high-flying first period, the Lancers snatched their first lead of the game at 8:28 when Brian Williams and Tucker Poolman set up Ryan Tait for a right-circle burner of a wrist shot that beat Lincoln goaltender Michael Bitzer and delivered Omaha a 1-0 lead. Then, in the frame's final minute, Luca Frigo flung a wild offering towards the Lincoln cage, an unexpected enough shot to fool Bitzer and with Tait grabbing an assist on the play, the Lancers claimed a 2-0 advantage.
With the game firmly in Omaha's control, the Lancers stormed out of the gate in the second and delivered two more goals, with Frigo's second of the game coming at 7:53, a point-blank tapper from Tait and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson at even strength. Then, in the middle frame's dying seconds, Gage Hough beat the buzzer with his 14th of the season, a power-play score assisted by Tyler Vesel and Jake Randolph that made it 4-0 Lancers.
In a wild third period, the Lancers scored four more times with the final frame rampage coalescing with a Nash Worden breakaway goal at 2:46, assisted by Niklas Folin, followed by back-to-back power-play goals from Tucker Poolman at 5:34, a score that came courtesy of a setup from Vesel and Steven Johnson, and a Forsbacka-Karlsson marker at 6:25, with Tait and Jimmy Schuldt providing the helpers on the tally that pushed the Lancer lead to 7-0. After a Brandon Smith goal for Lincoln spoiled the shutout for Omaha goaltender Hayden Hawkey at 6:35, Randolph capped off the game with his 15th tally of the season at 14:44 with Matt Nelson and Hough collecting the assists on Omaha's eighth and final score of the night.
