Omaha Lancers News Release
The Lancers' first visit of the season to Cedar Rapids was successful, thanks to a 4-1 victory on Friday, January 26th. Four separate Lancers scored goals to support the 32 save effort of goaltender Drew Palmisano, who won his 11th game of the season, his tenth as a Lancer goalie.
Cedar Rapids opened the scoring when Rob Bordson poked the puck past Palmisano in a scramble for his fourth goal of the year at 11:37 of the first period.
But the Lancers answered with two goals in the second period and two more in the third period to cement their 20th victory of the season (20-13-2). Jake Marto scored the Lancers' first goal, assisted by Jarmo Jokila, at 1:01 of the second period, an even strength goal with each team one man short due to penalties.
Pat Schafer got the eventual game-winning goal at 13:48 of the middle session, taking the puck from Cedar Rapids' goalie Kent Patterson as he was attempting to play it in the corner. After stealing the puck from the RoughRider goalie, Schafer took a bad angle shot from deep in the face-off circle that found the net for a 2-1 Lancer lead.
The Lancers completed the scoring with goals from Mark Olver (assisted by Corey Toy) at 3:30 of the third period, and from Jack Downing (assisted by Olver and Toy), at 6:52 of the final period for the final result of 4-1.
The Lancers out shot Cedar Rapids by a 39-33 margin, including 16 in the final period, while holding the RoughRiders to seven shots on goal in the second period. Neither team scored on the power play, as the Lancers took 15 penalties for 41 minutes, and the 'Riders took 10 penalties for 23 minutes.
Olver led the shooting attack for the Lancers with eight shots.
With the win, the Lancers have now won four straight games and are 8-2-0 in their last ten. Omaha moved within three points of first place Sioux City in the West Division standings. The teams meet Saturday, January 27th in Sioux City, beginning at 7:00 PM.
