Mark Olver scored a power play goal just seconds into overtime to give the Lancers a 4-3 victory over the Musketeers in Sioux City on Saturday, January 27th. The win completed a four-game road trip around Iowa that gave the Lancers four straight victories and moved them within two points of first place in the USHL West Division race.

Spencer Heichman opened the scoring for Sioux City, giving them a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. But, the Lancers answered just over five minutes into the second period, when Jarmo Jokila took a feed from Keir Ross and Matt Thurber, converting it past Musketeer goaltender Josh Robinson for Jokila's 15th goal of the season. The goal from Jokila came at 5:09 of the period.

The Lancers took a 2-1 lead when Mark Olver scored his 13th of the season at 6:30 of the second period, assisted by Andrew Conboy. Sioux City tied it when Phil DeSimone scored, but Jack Downing provided a one-goal lead for the Lancers, assisted by Thurber and Nick Petrecki, at 19:49 of the period for a 3-2 Lancer lead after two periods.

The third period was scoreless until Kevin Lohry scored from Dustin Gazley at 17:49 of the final frame, sending the contest into overtime.

However, the Musketeers took two penalties late in the third period that resulted in the Lancers getting a two-man advantage to start the overtime period. The Lancers ended the game when Jokila and Novak got the puck to Olver, who was parked alone at the side of the net. Olver jammed the puck home for the game-winning goal at 35 seconds of overtime. The goal was Olver's second goal of the night, 14th of the season, fourth power play goal and third game-winning score.

The Lancers out shot the Musketeers 39-35 for the contest, as the Lancers took 13 shots in the first and third periods. The Lancers were one-for-nine on the power, while holding the Musketeers scoreless in nine power play chances. For the weekend, the Lancers killed all 20 power play chances opponents had against them.

Omaha took 18 penalties for 39 minutes; Sioux City was whistled 16 times for 38 minutes.

Michal Valent (2-0-0) won his second game in goal for the Lancers, stopping 32 of 35 shots on net. Josh Robinson (6-0-1) made 35 saves in taking the loss for Sioux City.

The Lancers have now won five straight games and are 8-2-0 in their last ten. Omaha plays host to Chicago on Friday, February 2nd and on Saturday, February 3rd, at the Mid-America Center. Game time both nights will be 7:00 PM.
