Lincoln Stars News Release

The Lincoln Stars' four-game winning streak came to an end with a 4-1 loss to the Omaha Lancers on Friday night at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

Omaha defenseman accounted for three-of-their-four goals while Doug Grimes scored Lincoln's lone goal with his fifth of the season.

Grimes put the Stars on the board and tied the game up at 1-1 just 17 seconds after Max Wattvill broke the ice with game's first goal for Omaha. Mason Marcellus flicked a poke from the near corner up to Jack Sparkes at the point and his shot toward the net was headed wide but Grimes reached out to redirect it into the net. Grimes has now scored in five-of-the-last-six games and is tied for the team lead in goals.

It was tied up at the 2:36 mark of the second period but the Lancers scored the game's final three tallies to pick up the win. Luke Baker netted the game-winner after a Stars turnover in the near corner trickled to just inside the blue line and Baker's one timer was not only his first goal of the season but also the game winner.

Vincent Salice and Nate Benoit scored in the third period to add to Omaha's lead. Benoit's goal came moments after he exited the penalty box and marked the second Lancers' goal of the night to come unassisted (Baker).

The Stars had a couple of power-play opportunities to strike before Benoit put the game away, including a 5-on-3 stretch for a minute, but could not break through on the man advantage against the USHL's top penalty-killing unit.

Lincoln has a quick opportunity to bounce back as it faces the Tri-City Storm on Saturday night at 7:05 at the Viaero Center.
