Omaha Lancers News Release
Greg Wolfe tallied his fourth goal in as many games and Jeff Teglia recorded 30 saves as the Omaha Lancers outlasted the Sioux City Musketeers 2-1 Saturday evening in front of 5,880 fans at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 40-12-6 on the year and have now won 40 or more games for the third time in the last five seasons. The victory also capped a 7-0 regular season series sweep over the Musketeers.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker and the only goal of period one less than two minutes into the contest when Seth Ambroz found a streaking Matt White down the slot who went forehand-backhand before roofing his team-leading 32nd goal this season. Ambroz and Alec Rush assisted on Omaha's league-leading 41st first goal this season netted 1:48 into the game.
After scoring early in period one, the Lancers doubled the lead even earlier in period two when Greg Wolfe pounced on a rebound on the left wing in sending in his 23rd goal of the season just 48 seconds into the middle stanza. Ryan Daugherty and Dakota Eveland assisted on the even strength marker, which extended Wolfe's and Eveland's point streaks to five consecutive games each. Sioux City made its first and only trip to the scoreboard just past the midway point of the contest when Dan Ford's one-timer from the high slot sizzled past Omaha's Teglia and inside the left goal post trimming the lead to 2-1. Danny Wurden and Mitch Zion assisted on the five-on-five tally scored 10:06 into the second period.
Despite outshooting the Lancers 14-2 in the final period, the Musketeers couldn't find the equalizing marker as Teglia turned aside all 14 shots he faced in the period including a left wing breakaway by Sioux City's Adam Schmidt in the final two minutes of regulation. All tolled, Teglia registered 30 saves on 31 shots improving his overall record on the season to 29-10-5. Meanwhile, Sioux City's Matt Skoff saw his overall record dip to 19-19-9 after 19 saves on 21 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they welcome Team USA's Under-17 squad to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for a 7:05 PM opening face off.
