Omaha Lancers News Release
The Lancers won their second straight game in Des Moines with a 7-4, come from behind victory, on Friday, January 19th. New acquisition Barry Almeida scored two goals and added an assist for the Lancers, Corey Toy scored a pair of goals, and Patrick Schafer, Jarmo Jokila, and Robby Dee also lit the lamp in the win.
Des Moines opened the scoring with two power play goals in the opening nine minutes of the first period, but Almeida then got the Lancers on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season, assisted by Brett Bruneteau, at 17:24. The Buccaneers scored again on the power play with just under a minute remaining, but Schafer slid one past Des Moines netminder Stephen Ritter with 28 seconds left in the period to get the Lancers back within one at 3-2, Des Moines, after twenty minutes of play.
Two Lancer goals in the second spelled the end of the evening for Ritter between the pipes, as Robby Dee scored his 11th goal of the year, assisted by Schafer and Mark Olver for a 3-3 tie at the 2:45 mark of the middle session. Toy then delivered the first of his two goals for the night, assisted by Nick Petrecki, for a 4-3 Lancer lead at 4:10 of the period. Ritter then left the crease in favor of Des Moines' number one goalie, Matt Dalton.
Toy welcomed Dalton with his second goal of the night, fifth of the season and second power play goal of the year, at 3:10 of the third period for a 5-3 lead. The eventual game-winning goal was assisted by Will O'Neill and Olver.
Des Moines scored again on the power play to tighten the contest up at 5-4, but the Lancers again answered the challenge with Jokila breaking in and beating the Buccaneer goalie for an unassisted score, his team-leading 14th of the season, at 9:37 for a 6-4 lead.
Almeida completed the offense for the evening with an empty net goal with 1:16 left to play for the final score of 7-4 in favor of the Lancers.
Des Moines out shot the Lancers 29-23 for the contest and scored four times on the power play in nine opportunities, while the Lancers scored once on the power play in four attempts. The Lancers were whistled 12 times for 32 minutes in penalty time, while the Bucs were called six times for 15 minutes in penalties.
Drew Palmisano won his 10th game of the season (10-8-3) by making 25 saves, while allowing four goals. Dalton (16-8-3) took the loss for Des Moines in relief of Ritter and made eight saves while facing ten shots on net. Ritter allowed four goals and made eight saves on 12 shots on goal.
The road trip continues for the Lancers with a game in Waterloo on Saturday, January 20th, beginning at 7:00 PM. Coverage on Magic 1490, KOMJ, begins at 6:50 PM.
