Omaha Lancers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA. - The Lancers continued the weekend road trip tonight (12/9) as they headed to the Tyson Events Center to take on the Sioux City Musketeers. After coming off a near comeback last night against the Tri-City Storm in a 4-3 loss, the Lancers were ready to hit the ice hard.
The first period brought an offensive explosion from Omaha with scoring three times within the first 20 minutes of play, including three players with multi-point nights.
Ethan Fredericks found the back of the net twice, including one on the man-advantage to move him to four goals on the season with David Deputy capturing his seventh goal in the process.
Deputy came in with a secondary assist as well, on top of Jamison Sluys tallying two assists through the opening frame.
Other Lancers with points through one period would be Chase Cheslock, Lucas Brennan and Ryan Kroll; all with an assists under their belts.
Sioux City came out for the second period looking like a completely different team. Collecting 13 shots on goal and holding the Lancers to just two.
On top of being dominant in the shot column, the Musketeers managed to make it a 3-2 game with goals from Trey Jefferis and Colby Saganiuk. Giving Jefferis his second goal of the year, and Saganiuk his seventh.
Despite giving up two goals in the second frame, Omaha shut down the top power-play in the league, as Sioux City was 0/3 on the night through 40 minutes.
The Lancers gathered themselves over the intermission, which led to a momentum change leading to their fourth goal of the night, seven minutes into the third period. Fredericks came through with a redirect off a shot from Cheslock from the blue line, handing Fredericks his third goal of the evening. Making it a 4-2 contest.
As time ticked away, Sioux City pulled their netminder, Dylan Silverstein and made it a one-goal game following a one-timer from Owen Keefe.
Just 12 seconds later, after putting Silverstein back in the crease, the Musketeers struck again with a give-and-go play deep in the Lancers' end resulting in a goal from Ethan Gardula, following a defensive miscommunication. Locking the game at four goals apiece, which would lead to overtime hockey.
Although the overtime period lasted just over a minute, each team has three odd-man rushes. One after another. Following a defensive zone face-off win for Sioux City, another rush ensued.
Finn Loftus laced a pass to Gardula who took the puck coast-to-coast and beat Omaha goaltender, Mikhail Yegorov top-shelf to complete the comeback and take the 5-4 overtime victory.
The Lancers fall to 3-6-1-0 in their last ten games as they sit in eighth place in the western conference standings.
Omaha will be back on home ice on Friday, December 15th to host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Non-Profit Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM CST. That game can be streamed on FloSports and Mixlr.
