Omaha Lancers News Release

KEARNEY, NE. - The Omaha Lancers and Tri-City Storm came into tonight's matchup (12/8) after getting swept last week. The Lancers by the Team USA U18s, and Tri-City getting knocked twice by the Green Bay Gamblers.

It was Teddy Bear Toss Night inside the Viaero Center as Cameron Briere got the bears out early with a power-play goal at the 6:51 mark of the opening period, going top-shelf over the blocker of Lancers' Goaltender, Mikhail Yegorov.

The Storm were able to tack on two more goals in the second half of the period with Blake Steenerson netting his first of his USHL career, followed by Ryan Smith adding another power-play goal at the 16:12 mark to take a demanding three-goal lead.

Omaha showed life late in the period as Rylan Brady scored his first USHL goal with just 59 seconds remaining on an unassisted breakaway, making it a 3-1 game at the break.

It took nearly 14 minutes of play for the next goal to occur as Ryan Kusler buried a one-timer off a feed from Aleksi Kivioja to pull Omaha within a goal. But the one goal difference did not last long.

Vladislav Lukashevich send a well-place wrist shot glove side, high on Yegorov to regain the two-goal lead for Tri-City on even strength.

Justin Stupka got in on the mix with just 29 seconds left in the period as Drew DellaSalla beat a Storm defenseman to a loose puck, found Stupka alone in front, where he tallied his fifth goal of the season. Making it a 4-3 deficit at the second break.

A slower paced third period by both teams lead to a scoreless frame, as Omaha fell on the road 4-3 to Tri-City.

The Lancers will be back in action Saturday, December 9th at the Tyson Event Center to take on the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck drop is set for 6:05PM CST. That game is available on FloSports and Mixlr.
