Omaha Lancers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - In the final meeting of the two teams' five-game regular season series, the Omaha Lancers fell to the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday by a 5-2 final score at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. With the loss, the Lancers fell to 37-14-5 overall this season and with 79 points, remain alone in second place in the Western Conference standings, four points shy of the first place Waterloo Black Hawks.

Riding high following a hard-fought road win on Friday in Cedar Rapids, the Lancers charged out of the gate on Saturday and claimed an early lead just 1:47 into the opening period when Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson deflected home a Matt Nelson point shot with Connor Light tallying the secondary assist on a marker that made it 1-0 Lancers. Midway through the period, a fluky bounce for Musketeer forward Adam Johnson leveled the score when the future Minnesota-Duluth Bulldog banked a puck off the back of Lancers' goaltender Hayden Hawkey's right leg from below the goal line in the Omaha zone at 12:35.

The Musketeers grabbed their first lead of the game early in the middle frame as back-to-back goals from Bobo Carpenter and Waltteri Hopponen, at 2:03 and 2:36 respectively, made it 3-1 Sioux City. The Lancers hung tough though and drew within one at 8:05 thanks to an opportunistic wraparound conversion from Ryan Tait, set up by Anthony Angello and Steven Spinner.

Despite a strong third period in which the Lancers managed 19 shots on goal, the only two tallies in the period went in the Musketeers' column as a Brandon Hawkins power-play goal at 14:34 gave way to an empty-net score by Jake Montgomery at 18:34 that salted away a 5-2 Sioux City victory.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday road trek to L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Michigan for a 6:05 pm tilt with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 5:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.

In 2013-14, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 28th season in the USHL.
