Omaha Lancers News Release
KEARNEY, NE. - The Omaha Lancers had themselves a rare midweek matchup tonight (4/4) against the Tri-City Storm. The reason for the unusual scheduling was due to the Storm's arena, The Viaero Center, having problems with the installment of their sheet of ice back in September. Forcing the Storm and Lancers to postpone their game originally scheduled for September 30th, 2022. Which was supposed to be the Tri-City's home opener.
But both teams were ready to go just over six months later, for this makeup matchup.
It has been two months since the two squads went face-to-face. With the most recent game being back on February 4th, resulting in a 4-1 Tri-City victory at Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha.
The Storm got their offense going late in the first period as Jake Richard netted his 31st goal of the season on the man-advantage after a shot from Sebastian Tornqvist missed wide off a body. Richard was able to slam in the rebound off the back boards to go ahead 1-0.
It appeared the game would be heading into the first intermission with the lone goal, but with just one seconds left, Tornqvist found the puck in the slot off a pass from Daimon Gardner and went top shelf to send the two teams into the intermission with a 2-0 Tri-City lead.
The Lancers wasted no time getting that one back with as Tucker Shedd netted his third goal of the season just 56 seconds into the second period to make it a 2-1 game, with Drew Montgomery coming in with the assist.
Both teams had multiple high-quality scoring chances in the remaining 19 minutes of the period, but both netminders, Kevin Pasche (OMA) and Cameron Korpi (TC) stood tall and the game rolled into the third period with a 2-1 Tri-City lead.
Much like the second period, both teams had multiple scoring opportunities within the evenly played period, with both teams being able to put up 13 third period shots on goal.
With no one new finding the back of the net, the Lancers pulled Pasche with two minutes left. But after forcing a defensive zone turnover with 1:16 to play, Trevor Connelly scored the empty netter to take the 3-1 victory for the Storm.
Both netminders played great as Pasche turned aside 29 of 31 shots faced for a 0.935 save percentage. And Korpi doing the same for 28 of 29 for a 0.966 save percentage.
The Lancers will be back in action Friday, April 7th for a rivalry matchup with the Lincoln Stars back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck drop is at 7:05PM CST. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
