
Lancers Acquire Reese Laubach from Youngstown

OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League have announced the acquisition of Forward, Reese Laubach along with a 2023 4th round, phase II, a 2023 5th round, phase II and a 2024 10th round, phase II draft pick in exchange for Forward, Andon Cerbone, with a 2023 10th round, phase II and a 2024 3rd round phase II draft pick.
Reese Laubach (2003), of San Jose, California is in his first full-time USHL season with 19 total games played, with 17 of them being this year for the Youngstown Phantoms.
Laubach was selected 217th overall in the 7th round of the 2022 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks. Which will make him the fourth NHL drafted player on the Lancers' 2022-23 roster, joining Alex Bump (2022, Rd. 5, #133 overall by the Philadelphia Flyers), Nate Benoit (2021, Rd. 6, #182 overall by the Minnesota Wild) and Chris Romaine (2022, Rd. 6, #193 overall by the Colorado Avalanche).
In the 17 games played this season (2022-23), Laubach has recorded four points (2G-2A-4P) with a -3 rating. Helping the Phantoms turn around the start to the season as they were 2-5-0-0 through the first seven games, followed by going 5-2-2-1 in their last 10 games.
The Minnesota State commit had his USHL debut on December 30th, 2021 as a part of a weekend call up. Playing in just one other game during the 2021-22 season on December 31st, 2021. Going 1-0-1-0 in those two games in the form of a 2-1 overtime win over Team USA, followed by a 3-2 overtime loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
In the 2021-22 season, prior to Laubach's USHL experience, the 6-foot, 165 pound forward played 18U AAA hockey for Northstar Christian Academy, playing in 83 games and notching an impressive 147 points (70G-77A-147P), averaging 1.77 points per game in that stretch, leading him to being NHL drafted the following summer.
Andon Cerbone (2004), of Stamford, Connecticut will now be moving to his third USHL organization in as many years.
Cerbone made his USHL debut with the Chicago Steel on January 21, 2021, in a 4-2 road victory over the Youngstown Phantoms. With Cerbone joining the Steel just over the halfway mark of the season, he only played in 30 games in the 2020-21 season, tacking up seven points in the process (2G-5A-7P).
In doing so, Cerbone assisted Chicago in winning the 2021 Clark Cup Championship, giving the Steel their second cup in team history.
The 2021-22 season was Cerbone's first full-time in the USHL, playing in all but one regular season game. With his consistent offensive play, he tallied 38 points in 61 games played (11G-27A-38P), aiding the Steel's way to the top of the eastern conference standings at the conclusion of the regular season with a 39-13-9-1 record (88 points). As they only trailed the top team in the western conference, the Tri-City Storm who took home the Anderson Cup as regular season champions with a 47-11-3-1 record (98 points).
After fulfilling the "future considerations" portion of a transaction dating back to February of 2022 back in July, Cerbone did not miss a game with the Lancers in the beginning part of the 2022-23 season, skating in all 21 games played thus far, tallying 14 points and a -13 rating in the process (6G-8A-14P).
Whilst with the Lancers, the the 5-foot-9, 163 pound forward dropped his commitment to the University of Michigan as his options are now open in searching for another division one college to pursue his college hockey career.
