
Lancaster holds off Surf

ATLANTIC CITY _ The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Atlantic City Surf 9-8 Sunday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium.
Atlantic City fought back from a 9-4 deficit, scoring three runs in the eighth inning and loading the bases with nobody out in the ninth. But Lancaster closer Charlie Weatherby got Melvin Rosario to ground into a double play and retired Gary Johnson on a fly ball to end the game.
Atlantic City is 9-13 in the second half; Lancaster is 12-9. Lancaster got a grand slam from Atlantic City High School graduate Steve Van Note in the second inning. It came off Surf starter and loser Ryan Schurman, 3-5. Van Note also had a single and a stolen base for the Barnstormers. Jose Ortiz also homered for Lancaster as did Jeremy Todd.
Ozzie Timmons continued to have a hot bat for the Surf as he clubbed a homer for the fifth night in a row which tied a Surf record set by Clyde Williams earlier in the season. Timmons was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Surf and Rosario was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for Atlantic City.
Lancaster's Denny Harriger picked up the victory; he is 11-3 on the season.
Weatherby got the save, his seventh.
Demetrius Heath had a stolen base for Atlantic City; his 53rd. The Surf are off Monday and then travel to Camden for a three-game series with the Riversharks at Campbell's Field beginning Tuesday night.
