
Lakeland Flying Tigers Employee Kendall Heath Wins Florida State League Scholarship

Lakeland, FL - The Flying Tigers are pleased to announce that Kendall Heath has been selected by the Florida State League (FSL) Scholarship Committee as one of the twelve $1,500 educational scholarship winners. Heath will be a guest of the Florida Marlins in a pre-game ceremony on Sunday, August 17th. She will also be honored during a future Flying Tigers game. Heath is a native of Southfield, Michigan and attends Warner Southern College in Lake Whales, FL. She is double majoring in sports management and physical education teacher education. While concentrating on her studies, she plays basketball for the university. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports, going to the beach, and being with her family and friends. The FSL Scholarship Committee awarded a scholarship to an individual of all twelve FSL teams. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants had to be an employee of or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club. They must also be at least a high school junior by the 2008 fall term. The award was based on both financial need and grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The Florida Marlins with the FSL have sponsored the scholarship program for the past nine years through their Community Foundation and the Executive Director, Nancy Olson. The foundation has contributed $71,000 to the scholarship program. The program has been in existence for eleven years. The Flying Tigers next home game is tonight against the first place Dunedin Blue Jays. All kids (14 and under) will receive a voucher good for one free hot dog and drink. We will also celebrate Southpaw's birthday and the start of the Olympics by holding the inaugural Mascot Olympics. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 for box seats or $5 for reserved seats. All seniors (55 and over) and children (14 and under) receive a $1 discount. Parking is free. Tickets for tonight's game and for all remaining home games can be purchased in the "Tickets" section at www.LakelandFlyingTigers.com and at the Joker Marchant Stadium Box Office located at 2301 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland.
