
Hammerheads Split Double-Header With Cardinals

JUPITER, FL- The Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals split their double-header this evening at Roger Dean Stadium. Game one was a pitching duel, with Palm Beach edging out a 1-0 victory. Jupiter evened the series up after beating Palm Beach 4-0 in game two.
Brad Furnish pitched a complete game shutout for Palm Beach in game one. The lefty allowed no-earned runs and struck out four. It was the first complete game of his professional career. 2007 first-round draft pick Peter Kozma was the Cardinals offensive spark in game one and finished two for three with an RBI. Hammerheads starter Cristhian Martinez pitched well, but suffered a tough loss. In seven innings of work, he allowed one run on five hits and struck out five.
Jeff Allison pitched a gem in the nightcap of the double-header. The former 2003 first-round draft pick pitched six shutout innings to pick up his eighth victory of the season. He allowed only two hits and struck out three. Catcher John Purdom finished two for three and homered for the fourth time this season. Bryan Petersen also homered. The outfielder is batting .471 over his last five games.
The two teams will meet for the final time this 2008 season tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium. Andrew Miller is scheduled to take the mound for Jupiter on a Major League rehab assignment. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
