NORMAL, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers dropped the rubber game of their series with the Normal CornBelters, suffering a 7-0 loss on Thursday night at The Corn Crib.

Ross McCoy led off the bottom of the second inning with a ground rule double for Normal. Johnathan Ross followed with a single while Asif Shah was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Steve Alexander knocked in the first run with a first-pitch single off of Lake Erie starter Josh Roberts. Another run scored on a double play as the host CornBelters led 2-0.

Normal broke open the contest with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jeff Cowan posted a bases loaded single to knock in a run, and another run crossed on a fielder's choice before Daniel Cox hit a threerun homer, his second of the series.

Josh Roberts suffered the loss for the Crushers, working through five innings. Jon Durket tossed two scoreless frames and Esmelvin Jimenez twirled a perfect eighth. Lee Huggins mashed two of the four hits for Lake Erie, both doubles.

Lake Erie travels to Southern Illinois to meet the West Division leading Miners for the first time this season tomorrow night. RHP Matt Smith (7-6, 4.19) takes the hill for the Crushers with RHP Erik Sommerville (1-1, 4.09).

EXTRA SWINGS

- The bullpen added three more scoreless innings to its total; The pen has pitched 17.1 innings without allowing a run

- Casey McGrew entered the game at first base in the bottom of the sixth while Julio Rivera took over behind the plate in the same frame

- Jodam Rivera started at second and Andrew Davis was in the lineup at short for the second consecutive night
