Lake Erie Crushers News Release

SAUGET, Illinois - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, dropped a close one to the Gateway Grizzlies (6-5) on Wednesday night. The Grizzlies hit four home runs with three of them coming in the third inning to help key their 6-5 win over Lake Erie (7-4).

The Crushers sent Donald Murray (1-2) to the hill and the right-hander struggled early. He allowed a first inning home run to Blake Brown which made it 1-0.

The Crushers would answer back in the third inning when Bryan DeLaRosa homered off of Grizzlies starter Alec Kisena (2-1). Lake Erie later took a 2-1 lead after a sacrifice fly by Kevin Lachance scored Dane Hutcheon.

That was the last time the Crushers had a lead. In the home half of the third inning, Matt Hearn homered with a man on to give Gateway a 3-2 lead. Brown later homered off of Murray for the second time and Terry McClure followed suit in the same inning to make it 5-2.

The Grizzlies added a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Hearn which proved to be the difference.

Kisena went six innings for Gateway while allowing just two runs and striking out seven to earn the win. Murray went six innings in the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits.

DeLaRosa homered for the second time of the night in the seventh inning to get the Crushers within three. In the eighth Matt Dacey homered to make it 6-4. That was Dacey's second home run of the series.

The Crushers got some help from Gateway later in the inning. With Dalton Wheat at first, Brian Mayer hit a ball to deep center that Hearn couldn't handle. Wheat raced in to score and the Crushers were within a run. Kevin Simmons would enter the game for the Grizzlies and end the threat before striking out the side in the ninth to get his second save of the year.

Max Biedrzycki tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Crushers.

The Crushers and Grizzlies will face off in the rubber match tomorrow at 7:05 CDT. Alex Romero (1-1) will face Max MacNabb (1-1). The Crushers will travel to River City on Friday to begin a three-game set with the Rascals.
