Lahair Hits Tying Homer and Then Walk off Single in 10th Inning to Lead to Patriots Victory
(Somerset Patriots)
Bridgewater, NJ - Bryan LaHair hit the game-tying home run and later the walk off single to lead the Somerset Patriots (25-22, 63-54) to a 4-3 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers (18-27, 53-62) in ten innings on Thursday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
With runners on the corners and one out in the tenth inning, LaHair blooped a game-winning single to left field to give the Patriots the extra inning win.
"It was my day and I was just trying to give my best effort to get us a win," said LaHair. "I was looking for something to get the barrel on to get it out in the outfield. I put a good swing on it and those hits come when you do that."
The Barnstormers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Mike McDade.
Two more runs scored in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Kevin Ahrens and an RBI single by Dean Wilson for a 3-0 advantage.
Kyle Roller got Somerset on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Patriots chipped away at the lead with a run in the fifth inning on an RBI base hit by Aharon Eggleston.
A long home run by LaHair (9) in the sixth inning tied up the game at 3-3.
"Our team really wants to win. We come here every day and we want to win. We want to win series. Our goal is to finish all the way through," LaHair added.
Jeremy Bleich (1-2) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. R.J. Hively (1-6) took the loss, allowing a run in 0.1 innings pitched.
The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues at home on Friday night for a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game features Metal Lunch Boxes presented by Applegate.
