Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the signing of midfielder Javier Perez, the Club's third-round selection in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. Perez, 22, will be added to LAFC's roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.
"Javi showed great potential during the course of the preseason," said General Manager and EVP of Soccer Operations John Thorrington. "He adapted quickly to the group and we look forward to working with him and seeing his continued progression during the upcoming season."
Perez, who was initially acquired by LAFC in the third round (64th overall) of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of Pittsburgh University, saw action in five of the six preseason contests for the Black & Gold.
During his two years with the Panthers, Perez was a two-time captain and appeared in 35 matches (all starts). He earned USC All-South Region Third Team honors in 2018 and Second Team All-ACC accolades in 2017-18.
A product of Valencia FC's youth academy, Perez spent 15 years with the Spanish club, captaining the side for 12 of those years. He would join the University of Pittsburgh after being offered a scholarship through David Villa's DV7 Soccer Academy.
