Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that Club President and Co-Owner Tom Penn, EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager John Thorrington and EVP and CBO Larry Freedman have signed multi-year contract extensions with the Club.
"Our senior leadership team has done an incredible job of guiding our Club to unprecedented success both on and off the field in a relatively short period of time," said LAFC Lead Managing Owner Larry Berg. "Together with our fans and supporters, we have made Banc of California Stadium a premier destination for sports and entertainment in the Heart of Los Angeles."
Under Penn's leadership, LAFC has emerged as one of the most innovative, creative and forward-thinking clubs in professional sports and has quickly entrenched itself in the crowded Los Angeles sports landscape. Penn has guided the club through two historic seasons, as the Club has sold out every single MLS home match at Banc of California Stadium and boasts a season ticket holder base of over 17,000 fans.
Leading LAFC's soccer operations department, Thorrington has helped build one of the best rosters in MLS history. In just its second season, Thorrington saw LAFC clinch the 2019 Supporters' Shield after breaking the all-time points record with 72 points (21-4-9 record). The Club also tied the MLS record for most goals scored in one season (85) behind forward Carlos Vela's record-breaking 34 goals in 2019.
Recently named MLS' 2019 Doug Hamilton Executive of the Year, Freedman guides the business side of LAFC, overseeing all commercial matters as well as the award-winning Banc of California Stadium. He has helped the Club continue to be recognized as a leader in the sports and entertainment industry in 2019, as LAFC was the recipient of numerous awards including Fast Company's Most Innovative Company (#1 Live Events category), Front Office Sports' Best Employer in Sports and several MLS Club Executive and Sales Awards including Ticket Sales Team Of The Year and Business Analytics Team of the Year.
