LA Sparks Draft Rae Burrell Ninth Overall in the 2022 WNBA Draft

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks selected Rae Burrell out of the University of Tennessee with the ninth overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft presented by State FarmÒ.

The 6-foot-1, Las Vegas native played in 110 total games for the Lady Vols, holding averages of 10.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over four years, while shooting 40.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range.

She had a standout junior season, where she averaged 16.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and shot 45.8% from the field and 40.2% on three-pointers. Her senior season, she led her team to the Sweet Sixteen, where she scored 22 points against Louisville.

"Rae Burrell is a player we've been scouting for several years," General Manager/Head Coach Derek Fisher said. "Her length, versatility, and ability to play multiple positions will be valuable for us as we continue to build our roster. We're excited to add Rae to the LA Sparks organization."

Burrell is the fifth player from Tennessee that the Sparks have drafted and the first since drafting Cierra Burdick in the second round (14th overall) in the 2015 WNBA Draft. Other Lady Vols drafted by the Sparks include Candace Parker (2008, first overall), Shannon Bobbitt (2008, 15th overall) and Sidney Spencer (2007, 25th overall).
