Postgame Quotes
LA GALAXY HEAD COACH GUILLERMO BARROS SCHELOTTO
On the chemistry in the attack:
"I thought the chemistry in the attack, when we started the game, it looked wonderful. In the first 10 minutes, everyone had good touches, the goal... It looked like the chemistry was working. But after that, I think we got confused with the kind of way they are used to playing. They run a lot, get good pressure and have good play, and it was a little messy and we never could get the ball and get good connection on the offense. Obviously, we need to improve in that point because we need to win and we need to sort out everyone in front - Hernandez, Lletget, Pavon, whoever is playing - we need the best for that and we need good chemistry."
On the result:
"Obviously, we are a little disappointed with the result in the moment we are living, but we need to work and on Wednesday, try to win against Portland at home."
On the turf in San Jose and players slipping:
"I don't know. It's difficult, it happens. Today it happened a lot. Maybe we gave up some advantage in situations. I am more worried about why we couldn't manage the ball more times, why we couldn't get options or play better, because the idea was that we could play better than them, and we couldn't play and win, and that's more important."
On Lletget's season:
"I am happy with him, because we know he can be much better than he had been in the past. He's going well, but we work together and not just Sebastian... We need to get points because we need to make playoffs. So, I am happy for him but it's not enough."
On Yony Gonzalez' performance:
"Yony has been training for the first time [this week]... and maybe he's ready for 20 or 30 minutes, no more. I tried to put him on the field to use him a little wide. We needed to take advantage when Efrain Alvarez was there and give him the ball in space, but we never could because we could never dominate the ball, especially in that part of the field.
LA GALAXY GOALKEEPER DAVID BINGHAM
On the frustration of the result:
"It's probably the most frustrating time of the year for us. If you look at the first several minutes of the game, you're thinking, 'Wow, we're going to blow them out, 5-0' and then all of the sudden, we stop doing what was working for us and we start playing their game. And when you play someone else's game in this league, you're going to get punished."
On what has been different in the second half:
"We have just got to stick to our gameplan from the first minute to the last minute. If we play the remaining 80 minutes like the first 10 minutes, we're walking out of here 6-0. But the reality is we play the first 10 minutes how we want to and then we play half the time like they want to play and the other half the time is a battle back and forth. We have to do better to be consistent overall. At the end of the day, we have a pretty quick schedule coming up and we have to pick up points. We drop too many more games like this, we're going to be in trouble."
On the second penalty:
"I think anytime you give a penalty late in the game, it's tough and it's never easy. At the end of the day, I think [Rolf Feltscher] loses his footing on the field and it's unfortunate and that leads to the penalty... But that one instance isn't what lost us the game. The 80 minutes we played like crap is what lost us the game. So it's not important or fair for us to put it down to that play when the other 80 minutes, we were all crap."
LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER SEBASTIAN LLETGET
On the sense of urgency to get things on track:
"It's obviously very disappointing. At times like these, we can feel the pressure a little bit, but I think we've got to stay composed. There are a lot of games coming up with the way the schedule lines up, so we've got to focus on Wednesday. It's tough. It's definitely a tough loss. We've got to keep our head up. We can't give up now and there are still a lot of games to be played."
On the chemistry:
"I think it definitely still needs to be worked on. I think we need to connect more. That's probably my biggest criticism for us is that we're very disconnected. There's been a run of games now that we haven't had that connection that we have had in certain games. I'm not entirely sure the reason why... But we have to go back to the drawing board. It's definitely a tough loss."
On the second half compared to the first:
"I thought in the first half, we were finding good opportunities. We were finding good spots. We were getting into their half more often times than not. We couldn't really find that rhythm in the second half. I do usually think we do a good job of that in games that we always do come out lively and energized. But it goes back to that connection. Once you don't have that connection, you get frustrated and it's a domino effect and you start making small mistakes and you lose that confidence. When they go 2-1 up off that penalty that we give away, and now you're chasing the game, we just put ourselves in really tough positions."
