LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Friday, July 19, 2013) - The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Laurent Courtois. A native of Lyon, France, Courtois began training with the Galaxy last week and played 45 minutes in last weekend's Reserve League win over Portland. The 34-year-old most recently played for Chivas USA, spending just less than two years with the club before being released on June 30. Per club and league policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.
Courtois appeared in 33 regular season games for Chivas USA after signing with the club midway through the 2011 season, making his debut on August 6, 2011 against New England. He made 15 starts for Chivas USA and scored three goals while adding one assist. This season, Courtois appeared in five regular season games, making three starts and scoring once, with that goal coming in his final game for Chivas USA on June 28 at home against New England.
In addition to playing for Chivas USA, the left-sided player spent time in his native France playing for AC Ajaccio, Toulouse, Istres and Grenoble after beginning his career with Lyon. He also spent time in England with West Ham United and in Spain with Levante.
Courtois is eligible to make his Galaxy debut on Saturday night when the Galaxy host Vancouver Whitecaps FC at StubHub Center. That game, which is presented by First 5 California, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will be shown live locally on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. Tickets are on sale now by calling 877-3GALAXY (342-5299) or visiting www.lagalaxy.com.
