LA Galaxy Sign Defender Marcus Ferkranus
January 22, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has signed defender and LA Galaxy Academy product Marcus Ferkranus. The 17-year-old made his professional debut last year in the USL Championship with LA Galaxy II, earning five appearances total.
"Marcus is a talented prospect who we have seen progress as a player during his time with our Academy and with LA Galaxy II," said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. "It is vital that we continue to invest in our youth players and prioritize their growth professionally. We are excited that Marcus will remain with our club as he continues to develop."
Ferkranus made his professional debut for LA Galaxy II this year, appearing in five games with two starts in the USL Championship while still a member of the LA Galaxy Academy. He has represented the LA Galaxy Academy since 2017, where he has accumulated nearly 50 appearances for the Galaxy U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 squads. Ferkranus has also been named to various U.S. Youth National Team rosters.
The Santa Clarita product joins Adam Saldaña and Jalen Neal as former LA Galaxy Academy members to sign with the first team this week. Last week, the club also announced the acquisition of veteran left back Jorge Villafaña, the signing of goalkeeper Jonathan Bond and the signing of goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to a new contract.
Across the LA Galaxy first-team, the Galaxy now have 14 players that have come through the club's developmental system: Ferkranus and Efrain Alvarez, Julian Araujo, Nick DePuy, Cameron Dunbar, Kai Koreniuk, Eric Lopez, Jalen Neal, Jonathan Perez, Adam Saldaña, Daniel Steres, Diedie Traore, Justin Vom Steeg and Ethan Zubak.
