LA Galaxy Announce Insurance Group as Presenting Sponsor for Friendly Against FC Barcelona

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, July 23, 2009) - The LA Galaxy announced today a presenting sponsorship agreement with Farmers Insurance Group for the club's upcoming international friendly against FC Barcelona. The Galaxy will take on the reigning Champions League winners, whose honors include 19 La Liga trophies, a record-setting 25 Copa del Rey championships and three UEFA Champions League titles, including two in the last four years, on Saturday, August 1 at 8 p.m. at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

"We are pleased to be able to come to this agreement with Farmers Insurance Group for our upcoming friendly against FC Barcelona," LA Galaxy President of Business Operations Tom Payne said. "AEG and Farmers have long had an excellent working relationship and this presenting sponsorship will only serve to further that relationship."

As part of the presenting sponsorship, Farmers Insurance Group will receive an impressive package that includes LED Fieldboard signage, scoreboard exposure, in-game promotions and on-site activation opportunities along with hospitality.

FC Barcelona, whose heralded roster of international superstars currently includes Lionel Messi, Rafael Marquez, Xavi, Carles Puyol, Thierry Henry and Andres Iniesta, just finished a remarkable season that saw them capture the treble, winning all three of their major competitions: Spain's La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey. After finishing the season with 87 points and capturing the La Liga title, Barça went on to defeat Manchester United 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League Final with goals from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi. Messi, a 21-year-old Argentinean, finished as the highest scorer, with nine goals, and as the Most Valuable Player of the UEFA competition. He is also in the running for the FIFA World Player of the Year Award for 2009. In May, Barça defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in the final of the Copa del Rey.
