LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy and Dignity Health's Southern California Division have joined efforts to help combat the nation's worst blood shortage in over a decade by hosting a series of blood drives at Dignity Health Sports Park. The events will take place ahead of the LA Galaxy's regular season matches on Sunday, Feb. 27, Saturday, March 19 and Saturday, April 23. The LA Galaxy and Dignity Health partnered with LifeStream to help execute the series of blood drives.
"We look forward to working closely with our valued partners at Dignity Health to host a series of blood drives at Dignity Health Sports Park," said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. "The LA Galaxy are committed to serving all of Los Angeles and hope that this series of blood drives can positively impact the blood shortage in our communities."
The American Hospital Association, American Medical Association and American Nurses Association recently released a joint statement urging Americans to donate blood, calling the current shortage a result of the pandemic.
"LifeStream is proud to partner with the LA Galaxy and Dignity Health," said LifeStream's president, CEO and medical director, Dr. Rick Axelrod. "This partnership will allow us to reach a broader range of blood donors in an exciting way. The ongoing blood shortage continues to put patient care at risk. These drives will help protect patients in our community and save lives."
"Dignity Health's partnership with LA Galaxy provides unique opportunities for us to extend our care beyond the walls of our hospitals to meet the diverse needs of our communities," said Julie J. Sprengel, President and CEO, Dignity Health's Southern California Division. "This blood drive series with LifeStream is happening in response to a critical need for blood donations at a time when many hospitals are experiencing historically low levels."
Fans interested in donating blood are encouraged to register in advance online via www.lagalaxy.com/dignityhealthBD. All donors will be eligible to receive exciting incentives, from t-shirts, tote bags, tickets to future LA Galaxy home games, and more.
