L.A.'s Greg Hopkins selected as AFL 'Ironman of the Week'

LOS ANGELES -- Wide receiver/linebacker Greg Hopkins of the Los Angeles Avengers has been named the Arena Football League's "Ironman of the Week" for his outstanding performance in Sunday's incredible 82-76 overtime loss to the Arizona Rattlers.
Hopkins caught nine passes for 162 yards and five touchdowns, and also had 3.5 tackles and returned an interception nine yards for another score. His six touchdowns on the day tied the team record for touchdowns in a single game, which was originally established by Chris Jackson on May 24, 2002.
On the season, Hopkins has 58 receptions for 850 yards and 22 touchdowns. Defensively, he has 23 tackles (one for a loss), three pass deflections, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a touchdown. In addition, he is second on the team in scoring with 140 points.
This is the sixth time in his career that Hopkins has been honored with a weekly AFL award. Last season, he earned the league's highest individual honor when he was selected as the AFL's "Ironman of the Year."
This marks the 15th time in the last 25 weeks of competition that an Avenger player has been honored with an AFL weekly or monthly award.
The AFL also named Arizona quarterback Sherdrick Bonner the "Offensive Player of the Week" and Orlando defensive specialist Kenny "The Glove" McEntyre the "Defensive Player of the Week."
Bonner threw a career-high nine touchdowns in the Rattlers' victory over the Avengers. He completed 37-of-54 for 471 yards.
McEntyre had 4.5 tackles and three interceptions in a 66-23 victory over the Buffalo Destroyers. He returned one of those interceptions 45 yards for a touchdown.
Hopkins and McEntyre now share the all-time AFL record for interception returns for touchdowns, each with nine.
The Avengers play the Buffalo Destroyers (4-7) on Friday, April 18, at STAPLES Center. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Net 2.
