CARSON, CA (Monday, August 7, 2006) - The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed Canadian national team defender/midfielder Ante Jazic, the club announced today. Jazic, who most recently played with Russian club Kuban Krasnodar, will join the club immediately as a senior international player and will be available Wednesday, August 9 when the Galaxy faces the Houston Dynamo. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

"Ante is an experienced left back who will bring some much-needed composure and bite to the position," said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "It's a pity he's Canadian, but I guess nobody's perfect, eh?"

Jazic, 30, most recently played two seasons with Kuban Krasnodar of the Russian Premier League, joining the club in July, 2004. Prior to joining Kuban Krasnodar, Jazic played with Rapid Vienna of the Austrian First Division in 2001 following two seasons with Hajduk Split (Croatia) from 1999 to 2001, winning the Cup in the 1999-2000 seasons. A 5-11, 175-pound defender, Jazic played two seasons with Hrvatski Dragovoljac (Croatia) from 1997 to1999.

"He certainly adds to our roster, and it is good to have Ante officially available," Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop said. "He is happy to finally be able to play and I am very happy to have him too."

A member of the Canadian national team player pool, Jazic last appeared for Canada in an international exhibition on March 1, 2006 in a 2-0 victory over Austria. He has made 15 appearances with the Canadian National Team, playing in the preliminary and semi-final rounds of qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Jazic made his national team debut for Canada on May 18, 1998 during a 1-0 win over Macedonia.

"I'm excited to officially be a part of the team now," Jazic said. "It has been frustrating to sit out, but hopefully I can help the team earn a playoff spot. There are some quality players here and the level of play is high. I think Frank [Yallop] has done a good job and we just have to keep it rolling and get some wins now."
