Sporting Kansas City News Release
Pair Of Key Eastern Conference Showdowns This Week
Kansas City embarks on a string of five games in eleven days this week,
beginning with a key mid-week contest on the road against the New England
Revolution, this Wednesday, August 9th at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Wizards close
out the week with a home contest against the Columbus Crew on Saturday,
August 12th at 7:30 p.m. CT. With both matches coming against Eastern
Conference opponents, a good week by the Wizards could help them in the
standings. New England sits in second place in the East with 27 points,
just six ahead of Kansas City and seven ahead of sixth place Columbus,
however the Wizards have one game in hand on each. Kansas City occupies the
fifth spot, three points, or one win depending on how you look at, out of
third. Wednesday's match in New England can be seen live on MLS's Direct
Package at one of the Wizards' many Official Budweiser Watch Party Network
sites, visit www.kcwizards.com U.S. Open Cup Match At Chicago: Another Try The Wizards' fourth round U.S. Open Cup game originally scheduled for last
Wednesday, August 2nd, at Toyota Park against the Chicago Fire was
rescheduled for next Monday, August 14th. The Fire and Wizards were forced
to postpone the match in Bridgeview, Illinois last week after severe
thunderstorms in the Chicago area provided unsafe playing conditions. After
nearly a four-hour delay, the match was called off after game officials and
both clubs determined the match would not be able to kick-off at a
reasonable time. For Wizards fans that made the trip to Windy City last
Wednesday the Fire will honor any tickets and ticket stubs from last week's
cancelled event for the August 14th match. Fans that cannot make the newly
scheduled date can also exchange their tickets or ticket stubs from last
week for the teams' MLS match that is scheduled for next Wednesday, August
16th at 8:00 p.m. CT. Should the Wizards win next Monday, they will advance
to face the New England Revolution in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August
23rd, in Ludlow, Mass. The Revs advanced out of the fourth round with a 5-4
win in penalty kicks vs. the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the USL First
Division. Dogs Night Out This Saturday The Wizards will be hosting a special night for their four-legged fans this
Saturday, August 12th, when they host their first-ever "Dogs Night Out" at
Arrowhead Stadium for their match against the Crew. Fans attending the game
will be able to purchase a ticket package that will allow them to bring
their dogs inside of Arrowhead and sit in a special "Dogs Night Out" seating
section. Before the game, dogs and their owners can participate in Doggie
Street where there will be vendor booths and fun activities for both dog and
owner. Ticket packages begin at $20 and all dogs in attendance will receive
a free doggie bag. There will also be prizes awarded for the best Wizards
themed dog outfit. Large watering stations will be provided and a portion
of the proceeds generated from this event will be donated to The KC Pet
Program. To pre-register your dog (highly encouraged) and receive more
information visit www.kcwizards.com Conrad The Enforcer Wizards' defender Jimmy Conrad carved out a small piece of Major League
Soccer All-Star history this past weekend. After getting the starting nod
from D.C. United head coach Peter Nowak, Conrad anchored MLS's defense in
the first half to pave the way for MLS's 1-0 shutout of reigning English
Premier League Champion Chelsea FC. But that is not what Conrad will be
remembered for, in his 45 minutes of play, Conrad committed a game-high four
fouls in picking up one of the games' two yellow cards. It was that type of
play by Conrad that shut down what is considered by most experts to be the
top professional soccer team in the World. The shutout was the first-ever
by a Major League Soccer-side in an MLS All-Star game. Wizards On The Air Fans can catch defender Jimmy Conrad on the radio this weekend when the
three-time Major League Soccer All-Star will be live on the DA Show (610 AM)
at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8th. This Friday, between the hours of 9:00
a.m. and 11:00 a.m. a yet to be determined Wizards player will be live on
WHB 810 AM. The "Bull" Package Don't forget, the Wizards' upcoming home match against FC Dallas at the end
of August was moved to Sunday, August 27th, at 7:30 p.m. Originally
scheduled for Saturday the 26th, the game date was changed because their
stadium-mates, the Chiefs, will be playing in Arrowhead on that date. The
Wizards will be offering a special group ticket package beginning with the
August 27th game against the Hoops and ending with Kansas City's
regularly-scheduled game against the New York Red Bulls just three days
later on Wednesday, August 30th. For that pair of games the Wizards will be
selling a special two-game package where groups of 20 or more can purchase
midfield tickets to both games for a total of $14 a seat. To purchase this
package call the Wizards' Office at 816-920-9300.
