SIOUX FALLS, SD - Sioux Falls Canaries President John Kuhn and VP of Ticket Sales Chris Schwab have been nominated for the 2008 Spirit of Volunteerism Award in the Adult Category. The award, which recognizes outstanding volunteers in our community, will be presented to one of approximately 30 nominees at the Annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards Banquet on Tuesday, May 6, at the Ramokta Hotel.

Both John and Chris were nominated for the award by Amy Sumner of the Children's Miracle Network. "I am blessed to have them volunteer here at CMN," said Amy, "and I believe they should be recognized for their willingness and commitment to getting involved with not just CMN, but several organizations throughout the community."

In the fall of 2005, John worked closely with the Canaries Season Sponsor, First PREMIER Bank & PREMIER Bankcard, to establish the Sioux Falls Canaries "Non-Profit of the Night" program. The program creates recognition for different non-profit organizations from the community at each of the Sioux Falls Canaries 48 home games during summer. John and Chris have both dedicated much of their time with the Canaries to making the "Non-Profit of the Night" program a success. The program, now in its third year, will be recognizing more non-profit organizations than ever before in 2008.

"Their incredible work as volunteers is just one great example of how John and Chris are leaders within our organization," said Canaries General Manager Matt Hansen. "On behalf of our entire organization, I want to thank Amy Sumner and Children's Miracle Network, for the nominations."

The Sioux Falls Canaries will open the 2008 American Association season on May 8 with a visit to the defending champion Fort Worth Cats. The Canaries home opener is on Tuesday, May 13, when the club will host the Pensacola Pelicans in their "Season Premier" featuring a post-game fireworks display presented by First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
