GARY, Ind. - A night after the RailCats gave up 13 runs on 22 hits, Will Krout threw 8 1/3 strong innings to silence the Saints bats in the RailCats 2-1 win on Wednesday night. The RailCats improve to 47-48 on the season.

The RailCats took the lead in the first inning against Saints starter Brian Gump. Adam Klein walked and stole second. Mike Massaro drove him in with a single to center, Massaro's 60th RBI of the season, to put the 'Cats on top 1-0.

In the second, Trevor Willis singled and came around to score on David Cooper's two-out double down the left field line to make it 2-0.

Gump (0-1) went six innings for the Saints, settling down after the first two innings. He struck out six RailCats, walked two, and allowed six hits. It was his first start since joining the Saints on August 15th.

St. Paul got on the board against Krout in the top of the eighth. Miles Durham hit a deep drive to center off the wall for a triple. Trevor Willis slammed off the wall trying to make a play on the ball, but he stayed in the game. Joe Spiers followed with a groundout that scored Durham to cut the lead in to 2-1.

After inducing a fly out and then allowing a double, Krout (4-5) gave way to Marco Gonzalez in the ninth inning. Krout (4-5) finished after 8 1/3, allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out six and did not walk a single Saints batter.

Gonzalez got Willie Cabrera to fly out and Ole Sheldon to ground out, recording his eighth save of the season.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at 7:10 PM. Stephen Hiscock (5-6, 3.31) will start for the RailCats.
