El Paso Diablos News Release
WICHITA, KS- Luis Chirinos (5-2) allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings and Mitch Einertson homered in the first frame to propel the Diablos to a 4-2 win over the Wichita Wingnuts, ending the team's season-high seven game losing streak.
Chirinos allowed a solo home run in the first to Jake Kahaulelio to tie the score but was excellent from that point forward, allowing only three hits and none after the fourth. However, the 22-year old had to leave the game after the seventh with an apparent leg injury.
At the plate, El Paso jumped on the board early against derek Blacksher (9-5) on Einertson's long ball and added on two innings later. Jermy Acey doubled in a pair of runs with one out, and Zane Chavez singled in another later in the frame. When the dust settled, El Paso had a 4-1 lead.
The score remained 4-1 into the ninth, when the Wingnuts staged a small rally against Justin Harper. A bloop hit brought in a run to decrease the lead, and another brought the potential winning run to the plate. Harper got catcher Jesse Mier to ground to second to end the game one batter later.
The win moves the Diablos to 45-50 with five games left to play. El Paso plays its final road game of the year on Thursday, finishing off the five game series with the Wingnuts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. MST).
