Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Quakes' pitching dominated in the series-opener on Friday night, holding Lancaster to just two hits and earning a second consecutive shutout victory in a 2-0 final.
Dean Kremer held the JetHawk offense in check from the early going and was backed with his first bit of run support in the third.
After Rylan Bannon reached on a fielder's choice, third baseman Colton Welker misplayed a ground ball to extend the inning for Jeren Kendall. With the green light on a 3-0 count, Kendall plated Bannon with a double to right field, giving Rancho the 1-0 lead.
Despite a high pitch count early on, Kremer settled in, retiring his last seven hitters faced, five via strikeout and exited the fifth with a hit and nine strikeouts to his line.
Gavin Lux added insurance in the bottom of the inning with his sixth home run of the season, a solo-shot to right field to make it 2-0.
Out of the bullpen, Nolan Long returned to the Quakes for the first time since mid-April, allowing a single hit over a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. On the back end of things, Jason Richman covered the final two innings, earning his fourth save of the year while securing the win for Kremer (4-2).
On the mound for Lancaster, starting pitcher Rico Garcia (5-6) worked six innings while allowing two runs, one earned, in his sixth loss of the season.
With the win, the Quakes are now in a three-way tie with Lancaster and Lake Elsinore for second place in the South Division, one game back of Inland Empire.
Isaac Anderson is scheduled to be the Saturday night starter for the Quakes. Lancaster will counter with Ty Culbreth (1-2) in game two of the series with first pitch at 7:05 PM.
