RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks were shut out, 2-0, in the opener of a six-game series against Rancho Cucamonga at LoanMart Field Friday night. It's just the third time this season the JetHawks have been held without a run.

Dean Kremer (4-2) was sensational for Rancho. One start removed from six no-hit innings, Kremer allowed just one hit over five innings. He struck out nine.

Manny Melendez had the only two hits for Lancaster (26-29). He singled off of Kremer in the third, and had another base hit against Nolan Long in the sixth inning.

Rancho Cucamonga (26-29) got on the board with an unearned run in the third inning. A Colton Welker error extended the inning for Jeren Kendall, who ripped an RBI double to right field. Gavin Lux made it 2-0 with a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning.

Rico Garcia (5-6) took the loss despite allowing just two runs (one earned) in six innings. He struck out a season-high nine batters.

Lancaster struck out 15 times on offense in defeat. The JetHawks were shut out for the first time since being held to one hit in San Jose May 13.

Heading into Saturday, all four teams in the South Division are separated by a single game. The JetHawks are in a three-way tie for second place, one game back of Inland Empire.

The series continues Saturday night in Rancho. Lefty Ty Culbreth (1-2) is set to start for the JetHawks against Isaac Anderson (1-4). First pitch from LoanMart Field is at 7:05 pm.
