
Komets To Ring In 2010 With Busy Week; Schrock Named Rookie Of The Week

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets will be busy ringing out the old and bringing in the new this week with four games slated in five nights.
The busy week starts at home against the Dayton Gems Tuesday night at 7:30pm. It will be the fourth of 15 meetings this season and the second of six in Fort Wayne. The Komets (15-10-0-1, 31 points) dulled the Gem's debut in Fort Wayne Nov. 14 in overtime 2-1 and blanked the Gems at Dayton Dec. 5 in the last meeting 3-0. Dayton (12-14-3-1, 28 points) is struggling to hold on to fifth place in the IHL after losing their last three games played and are 1-5-0-1 in their last seven games. Tuesday night's game will be the first of a home-and-home midweek series with a rematch Wednesday night at Hara Arena at 7pm.
Thursday the Komets will host Bloomington (14-9-1-2, 31 points) at 7:30pm for the 53rd Fort Wayne New Year's Eve home game. The Komets have won the last seven straight New Year's Eve games and are 35-13-3-1 in 52 Fort Wayne New Year's Eve games since the tradition started in 1955. It will be the second time the PrairieThunder spent New Year's Eve in Fort Wayne. Bloomington rang in 2008 with a 4-1 loss to the Komets in their first New Year's Eve appearance. The Komets and Thunder are tied for third place in the IHL for the third straight week as week 12 begins. Bloomington hosts Muskegon Tuesday before making the trip to Fort Wayne Thursday.
Saturday the Komets begin the New Year with a 7:30pm faceoff at Perani Arena in Flint. The Komets will have a chance to avenge their 4-1 loss at Flint Sunday. It will be the fourth of 12 meetings this season with the Komets holding a 3-1-0-0 series edge. The Generals will host Quad City Wednesday before facing the Komets Saturday.
About last week The Komets split two games played for week 11. Saturday the Komets started the post-Christmas weekend road tour with their first win of the season in three meetings at Walker Arena in Muskegon 7-2. Sunday the Komets ended the weekend with a 4-1 setback at Flint for their first loss of the season to the Generals. Streaking Chaulk hits 500 as a Komet.....Colin Chaulk (C) finished the week riding a five-game point-scoring streak (4 goals, 7 assists) and three-game assist streak (5 assists) while also hitting a couple milestones along the way. The veteran center marked his 500th point as a Komet with his first goal of the game at Muskegon Saturday. His second goal of the game was his 800th pro point. Schrock named Rookie of the Week....the IHL named Komet winger Kaleigh Schrock Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 27. The Fort Wayne native contributed his first pro 2-goal performance in the Komets' 7-2 win at Muskegon Saturday. In addition to his pair of points Schrock completed the two weekend games posting a +2 and accumulating 12 penalty minutes.
Family Holiday Skate Tuesday.....a special Family Free Holiday Skate, compliments of Wendy's, will be featured immediately following the Komets home game against Dayton Tuesday. Bring your skates!
Welcome 2010 with the Komets.....free noisemakers and party favors will be handed out to the first 5,000 fans New Year's Eve when the Komets host Bloomington at 7:30pm courtesy of Technology Specialists. Also, the Komets will wear their Limited Edition Technology Specialists/Fort Wayne Children's Zoo Wild Jungle game jerseys Thursday night.
