Rapid City Rush News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - In another closely-fought and low scoring affair, the Fort Wayne Komets picked up a 3-1 win over the Rapid City Rush at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday night. The Komets now lead the best-of-7 series 2-1 with game #4 slated for tomorrow at 5:35pm MST.
The Komets got on the board early when Brett Smith beat a Rush defender by swatting the puck out of mid-air before sliding it five-hole at 2:48 of the first period.
Despite being outshot 29-14 through the first two periods, the Rush were able to escape with a 1-1 tie, due to Collin Circelli's second goal of the playoffs. Komets goaltender Nick Boucher stepped behind the net to play a dump-in attempt by defenseman Michael Couch, but the puck caromed off of a metal divider and to the slot for a tap-in by Circelli.
The final period was tightly contested until the midway point when a Frankie DeAngelis shot was turned aside by Tim Boron, but the rebound was snuck in by Mike Vaskivuo for the eventual game-winner. Kaleigh Schrock added an empty net goal to secure the 3-1 win and 2-1 series lead.
