Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs fell 6-0 to the Fort Wayne Komets in front of 6,739 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The loss was the worst at home for the IceHogs this season and marked only the second time this season in which Rockford lost back-to-back games. Komets goalie Kevin St. Pierre blocked 30 Rockford shots to earn the shutout.
After a scoreless first period, Fort Wayne hopped on the board 1:33 into the second. Winger Jonathan Goodwin fired a marker past Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel for the 1-0 lead. The advantage was bumped up to 2-0 when winger Andrew Luciuk fired his own rebound in at 9:47 of teh middle period.
The momentum changing goal, however, came at 16:18 of the second frame. After Rockford killed off a full two-minute 5-on-3 Fort Wayne power-play, the Hogs attempted to cut the lead in half. Fort Wayne was the club that capitalized. Center Colin Chaulk shot in the Komets third goal of the campaign to swing the momentum back to the Fort Wayne side.
In the third period, Fort Wayne notched three power-play goals to ice the contest. P.C. Drouin blasted home the first on a 5-on-3 advantage at 8:50 to make the score 4-0. Just 27 seconds later Luciuk knocked in his second of the night before David Hukalo chipped in the games final lamp lighter at 18:38, making the score 6-0.
Fort Wayne outshot Rockford 35-30, the first time in 10 contests in which Rockford was outshot. The Hogs power-play wasn't a factor either, going 0-for-9, while the Komets went 3-for-7.
