Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets kept their winning streak alive Wednesday night by stomping the visiting Blooomington PrairieThunder 7-1 to the delight of 5,474 fans who braved the near zero temperatures in Fort Wayne to see the K's hot streak reach six games. Fans were also witness to the 1400th home win for the Komets since the Fort Wayne franchise started in 1952.
-gamesheet- Fort Wayne opened the game with a pair of goals in the first period and followed with three second period tallies before chasing Bloomington starting goalie Marco Emond after 40 minutes of play. The Komets scored two more goals in the third before Alan Mazur spoiled Fort Wayne goaltender Kevin Reiter's bid for a shutout with only a minute and 11 seconds remaining in the match.
Fort Wayne's Sean O'Connor and Colin Chaulk each netted a pair while Tab Lardner extended his CHL-high goal-scoring streak to five games scoring the first goal of the second period. Lardner also dished two assists for second three-point game of the season. Frankie DeAngelis also scored for Fort Wayne and added an assist for a two-point night.
Derek Patrosso passed three assists to extend his current league-high assist-scoring streak at 10 games. Patrosso also added a goal to become the first Komet this season to register four points in a game.
Reiter posted his sixth win of the season making 21 saves for the Komets. Bloomington's Emond suffered his second consecutive loss allowing five goals on 22 shots before Brad Phillips stopped five of seven shots in the third period in relief.
Fort Wayne improves to 19-18-5 for 43 points after 42 games as Turner Conference rival Bloomington falls to 24-16-2 and holds at 50 points in 42 games.
The Komets will welcome the Quad City Mallards Friday at 8pm before traveling to Dayton to face the Gems at Hara Arena Saturday at 7:30pm. The Komets will return home Sunday to host the Evansville IceMen at 5pm to complete the week.
