Komets Improve To 34-23-4 After 22 Weeks

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets added 4 points to their record and improved to 34-23-4 for 72 points after 22 weeks of the 2005-06 season. In games played last week the Komets took a 4-3 victory out of Missouri Friday before returning to Fort Wayne to split a home double-header weekend. The Komets grabbed a 3-2 shootout win over Richmond Saturday and were upset by the visiting Kalamazoo Wings 4-1 Sunday at the coliseum.

After 61 games the Komets hold second place in the Western Division and a 3-point lead over third-place Quad City with 3 games in hand.

This week the Komets will skate 4 games in 5 nights. It also marks the beginning of a final stretch of 15 games in 25 nights to finish the season including 6 home games and 9 matches on the road.

Komets to play 4 in 5 nights this week

K's head for Garage Wednesday.....the Komets travel to the Motor City Wednesday to face the Mechanics in the "Garage" at 7:30pm, also known as the Great Lakes Sports City Superior Arena in Fraser, Michigan. The Komets are undefeated by the Mechanics in 4 meetings this season. Wednesday's game is the fifth of 6 meetings this year and the second of 3 at Motor City. Motor City and the Komets are tied for sixth place overall in the UHL with 72 points each. Motor City's magic number for not over-taking Kalamazoo for second place in the Central Division is 3. Chief Mechanic is former Komet Brent Gretzky (C) who leads with 57 assists and 70 points. Motor City is riding a 3-game win streak and is 9-3-1 in their last 13 outings and 16-7-2 in the last 25. The Mechanics are coming off a 4-1 home win Saturday against Elmira.

Komets face Otters at Missouri Friday.....Friday at 8pm the Komets will skate at Missouri for the second straight Friday tilt at The Family Arena. The Komets dropped the Otters 4-3 last Friday night and will face the River Otters for the eighth time this season. The Komets lead the series 6-1-0 with 3 meetings remaining. Winger Jim Duhart is the top Otter with 22 goals and 48 points. Missouri is coming off a 3-2 shootout win against the Rockford IceHogs Sunday at The Family Arena and is 3-3-0 in their last 6 games.

Komets hog it Saturday.....the Komets face the IceHogs at Rockford Saturday at 8pm. It's the 9th of 10 meetings this season with the Komets trailing the season series 3-5-0. Rockford's hogged the top spot in the Western Division all season and currently leads the second-place Komets by 23 points with a 44-13-7 record and is tied with Muskegon at the top of the UHL with 95. The Hogs are 2-2-1 in their last 5 games and 5-4-1 in the last 10. Rockford plays host to Danbury Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday.

River Otters invade Fort Wayne Sunday.....the Komets will host the Missouri River Otters Sunday at 5pm to start a series of 4 home games in 8 nights. Sunday's tilt will mark the forth and final visit by Missouri. The Komets are 2-1-0 vs Missouri in 3 meetings this season at the coliseum.

Hunter gets his first hat.....winger Matt Hunter netted his first career hat trick scoring 3 goals in the Komet's 4-3 win at Missouri Friday, March 17.

Komets post 300th UHL win.....the Komet's 4-3 victory at Missouri Friday was their 300th regular season win since joining the UHL in 1999.

Taking the shots.....the Komets outshot their opponents for the week 129-65. Over the past 3 weeks the Komets have outshot their opponents 347-194 and have the second highest shots per game average in the UHL at 35.89.
