Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, are pleased and proud to announce a donation of $32,291 to the Great Lakes Burn Camp. The money was raised during the 25th Annual World Famous St. Patrick's Day "Green Ice" Game Jersey Auction.
It was a bidding frenzy for all of the K-Wings jerseys, but at the end of the night the three highest bids were for the jerseys worn by, goaltender Joel Martin and forwards Tyler Willis and Nick Bootland. Martin's jersey went for $4,300, while Willis and Bootland each went for $4,000.
The donation of $32,291 is a record raised by any K-Wings UHL jersey auction and is believed to be one of the top jersey auctions in the franchise's overall history.
"A lot of kids are going to benefit from this donation," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "The Great Lakes Burn Camp is a great organization and it means a lot to us (K-Wings) and our fans that we can give them this donation."
The money raised will go to the Great Lakes Burn Camp, which is a special place for kids ages 7-17 to meet, heal, grow and support other burn survivors. Kids share their stories and bond with other kids in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Unconditional love and acceptance is only part of what each camper receives at Great Lakes Burn Camp.
"There are a lot of costs to running the camp and having a donation of this size will levy that burden," said Great Lakes Burn Camp Director Mike Longenecker. "We have a great working relationship with both Wings Stadium and the K-Wings, but words can't express what this (donation) means to the camp and more importantly the kids."
The camp strives to remove all barriers that may keep children from participating in events and activities. Campers also receive well-balanced meals and 24-hour medical supervision. Dressing changes, Physical Therapy or other special medical services are managed by the Camp Nurse. Transportation to and from camp is provided. Opportunities for burn survivors are made possible through generous financial and material donations and services provided by businesses, organizations and individuals like you.
