Elmira Jackals News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Elmira Jackals suffered their worst loss of the season, losing 8-1 to the Fort Wayne Komets Friday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The Jackals were awarded the first two power plays of the game, but it was the Komets who got on the board first with a power play goal. Defenseman Mario Larocque blasted a slap shot past Jackals goaltender Kris Tebbs at 10:52, a 5-on-3 goal assisted by Bruce Richardson and Guy Dupuis. Elmira had four power plays of their own in the first period, but failed to cash in on the advantage.
In the second period, the even play continued for about 8 minutes before the Komets completely took over. Guy Dupuis scored at 8:23 to double Fort Wayne's lead, setting a remarkable scoring run by the home team. The Komets would then send a Blitzkrieg on the Jackals, scoring two more goals in the span of 10 seconds following the Media Timeout. J.F. Labarre scored at 10:14 and J.C. Ruid made it 4-0 Fort Wayne just 10 seconds later at 10:24. Labarre then scored his second goal of the night, and the Komet's 5th consecutive goal at 16:20 for a 5-0 lead. The Jackals got on the board 58 seconds later when Dale Lupul scored his 4th goal of the season on a shot from the blue line that beat goaltender Kevin St. Pierre, assisted by Derek Miller and David Morelli, for a 5-1 score. But the Komets left little time before regaining their 5-goal lead as David Huckalo scored at 18:22 finishing off a 5-goal second period for Fort Wayne. The Komets also dominated in the shots department, out-shooting the Jackals 28-5 in the second period alone.
The Jackals replaced starting goaltender Kris Tebbs with backup Tyson Gajda at the start of the third period, But it couldn't stop the onslaught as J.F. Labarre scored his third goal of night, earning his hat trick at 2:41 directly from a turnover behind the Elmira goal. The game continued uneventfully for most of the period, until 18:57 when A.J. Bozoian's shot from the point eluded a screened Gajda capping off an 8-1 victory for Fort Wayne.
Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre earned the win making 18 saves on 19 shots in goal. Kris Tebbs took the loss, while stopping 34-of-40 shots in the first two periods. Tyson Gajda played the third period for Elmira, making 10 saves on 12 shots. Elmira finished 0-for-5 on the power play while Fort Wayne was 1-for-7.
The Jackals head to Flint Saturday night as they battle the Generals at 7:30 pm at Perani's Arena. Elmira will return home Wednesday November 22nd to face off against the expansion Chicago Hounds, a 7:05 pm face off at First Arena.
